I confess I cheated a bit for Five Minute Friday. The minute I saw the word “hidden” I remembered something I wrote a while ago. I never posted it. Today, God’s timing is perfect. So I hope it’s okay that I edited for five minutes? J Hugs and blessings to you today!

Are there days you just want to hide? As a responsible adult, wife, mother, employee, friend, child of God, etc. it’s probably not okay to retreat to my closet and never come out. Ever. Even if that’s exactly what I think will make everything better. I can’t quit God, or my family, or my responsibilities. I can take a hot shower and turn up worship music so loud I can’t hear anything else for a time. I can soak in the tub with a good book for a time. I can curl up in my room with a good TV show for a time. I can remain hidden for a time. But eventually, I have to suck it up and return to reality for the rest of the time.

So what do we do when we honestly and really want to hide forever?

At a time when the Lord was revealing and helping me address a lot of hard truth, I cried out to Him and explained just how desperately I wanted to go into hiding from everything and everyone, and He answered with Colossians 3:3:

Your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Your life is hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3).

“Hide yourself in Christ, Shauna. You are hidden in Him,” He gently nudged.

The word brings me such comfort.

Why is with Christ in God such a safe place to hide?

He is safe.

He is faithful.

He is true.

He loves me.

He is HOPE.

He is PEACE.

So He is safe for me.

But the other safety is for others. When I try to hide in anything but Jesus – behind a mask or by escaping to activities or things that alter my mood for the moment and help me forget the reason I want to hide – then what people get from me is usually pretty ugly.

When I hide in Christ, when people look for me, they get Him.

So He makes me a safe person to and for others.

And when I’m hidden there, no one can see me. They’ll see Jesus, and that’s exactly who they need to see anyways. They don’t need me; they need Him. Every situation I don’t know how to handle doesn’t need me; it needs Him. Every person who needs something from me doesn’t need me; they need Him. And when I’m hidden in Him, totally immersed, concealed, and safe in His arms, they get what they need because He’s supplying all my needs.

So go ahead and hide from it all…with Christ in God.

Nestle into His embrace. Take a deep breath. Receive the love, peace, and strength He has for you through the Holy Spirit. God is so faithful. He is so real. And we know His realness by believing and doing what He says. When Paul talks about our lives being hidden with Christ in God, he talks about how. Look at the actions he gives us in Colossians 3:1-4:

If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

Seek those things which are above.

Set your minds on things above.

Your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Jesus is our life.

When He appears, we will appear with Him in glory.

When we hide in Him, He appears in glory through us here on earth now.

Get hidden!
